Industry observation丨For it, China Unicom and China Telecom are actually together

What is the concept of 1 millisecond?

It takes 200 milliseconds for the human brain to detect facial expressions. The delay of the Bluetooth mouse is 10 milliseconds. It takes 5 milliseconds for the bee to flap its wings once.

And 5G, will reduce the delay to 1 millisecond.

5G is not just fast.

At the subway station in the morning rush hour, you are connecting with customers about the upcoming project. The signal is full, but you can't even send a picture.

There are too many people and the load of 4G base stations is saturated, just like hundreds of people squeeze a router, no matter how good the signal is, it will be useless.

If a 5G network is set up, the problem will be greatly alleviated. A 5G network can connect millions of devices per square kilometer, which is nearly a hundred times that of 4G.

With so many benefits, 5G is not easy to build. When will 5G be commercially available?

High frequency is one of the reasons for the fast speed of 5G, but it also brings a problem-signal loss.

To solve it, the number of base stations must be increased.

It's like you moved into a new house with too many rooms and weak WiFi signal. What you can do is to add more routers.

The same is true for operators. The coverage radius of a 5G base station is 100 to 300 meters, which is less indoors.

At present, Shanghai has built a total of 25,000 outdoor base stations and 31,000 indoor small stations to achieve full coverage within the outer ring.

In 2020, China is expected to erect 500,000 5G base stations, and a single base station will quote hundreds of thousands, which will cost tens of billions.

Not to mention the electricity, maintenance, and labor costs that follow.

But this is not over yet. Currently, 5G has two networking solutions, NSA and SA.

If the 5G network is building roads, then NSA (Non-Independent Networking) is to widen a lane on the original road, 4G and 5G share the same road, which is suitable for the transition from 4G to 5G, but it cannot play all the functions of 5G.

The SA network (independent network) is to build a new road independently of the original road. Faster speeds and wider roads can realize complete 5G functions and truly turn 5G into a productivity tool.

In 2020, Chinese operators will start SA networking, and for them, this will be a huge investment. It is estimated that the scale of 5G investment will reach 1.2 trillion, compared with 800 billion 4G is a younger brother.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology encourages operators to follow the principle of "co-construction and sharing", that is, several companies jointly build a network. For example, China Unicom and China Telecom are jointly building and sharing 5G networks, which can guarantee the complete functions of 5G and the speed of construction.

The good news is that SA networking is expected to be commercially available in the second half of this year.

Some people may ask, 4G speed is already very fast, watching videos, playing games is not very stuck. Why is it necessary to spend so much money to build 5G?

Regarding 5G, there is a "two-eight law", that is, 20% is used on the consumer Internet and 80% is used on the industrial Internet.

This 80% is the true meaning of 5G.

For example, in the smart manufacturing industry, a smart factory may have thousands of sensing devices, drones, and robots that are synchronizing and collaborating. It will generate 1000Tb of data a day, which is equivalent to the size of 10,000 4K movies. One watch a day, 27 You can't end the year.

However, it is impossible for 4G networks to transmit this amount of data.

In the 5G era, the Internet of Things will become more complicated. At present, the most common Internet of Things is bike sharing. Relying on 2G or 3G networks, smart car locks can communicate with remote servers. This is why you can unlock the bike by scanning a code.

In the 5G era, bicycle locks for shared bicycles may have more functions. It may realize fault self-detection and repair, and you will never scan the code but can't open the lock.

Moreover, what 5G brings is not only new technologies, but also new economic growth points and industrial upgrading opportunities.

Shenzhen is a good example. Actively adapting and developing new technologies is one of the biggest advantages of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone since its 40th anniversary.

On August 17, Shenzhen had a total of 46,000 5G base stations, becoming the country's first city with full coverage of 5G independent networking.

Relying on the developed 5G infrastructure, Shenzhen will vigorously develop the industrial Internet, build a smart port, promote the upgrading of manufacturing, and continue to lead the world in innovative industries.

And all of this is based on the contributions of 5G builders.

Recently in Guangdong, China Unicom has closely focused on 5G commercialization and development, and joined hands with China Telecom to accelerate the joint construction and sharing of 5G.

They have taken the lead in completing the verification of SA co-construction and sharing networking in 21 cities in the province, making Guangdong the first province in the country to complete the SA co-construction and sharing networking of the province.

The two 5G networks of China Unicom and China Telecom each have a bandwidth of 100M. After the joint construction and sharing is enabled, the two parties are equivalent to each having a 5G network with a bandwidth of 200M, with a peak rate of 2.7Gbps. Coverage, rate, and bandwidth will be doubled. The effect of 1+1>2.

And this speed is not only fast, but also a bridge to the future digital economy and society.

5G is here, and so is the future.
