In July 2019, China Eastern Airlines officially issued the world’s first passive permanent electronic luggage tag (R&D and produced by RINLINK) on the Beijing-Shanghai route from Shanghai Hongqiao to Beijing’s capital. This marked a new record for China Eastern’s global luggage tracking system construction. A new chapter will be explored with the application scenarios of my country's smart civil aviation construction in luggage transportation.
On the same day, the first group of passengers who received the permanent electronic luggage tag experienced this convenient operation on the spot. After passengers complete self-service check-in in China Eastern Airlines APP in advance, they choose to check their baggage, and place the electronic luggage tag near the NFC (Near Field Communication, most mobile phones currently available) sensing area of the mobile phone for data sensing, with a "didi" sound. Information such as flight number and luggage destination will be displayed on the permanent electronic luggage tag through electronic ink, which only takes a few seconds. Afterwards, passengers can go to the counter to activate and complete the entire baggage check-in process easily.
The application of this electronic baggage tag simplifies the baggage check process on the one hand, overturns the previous operations of attaching baggage tags and attaching baggage passenger coupons to the boarding pass. Passengers can apply for themselves through the Eastern Airlines APP even if they are at home or on the road Baggage check-in procedures. On the other hand, with the help of the accurate tracking function of the built-in RFID identification chip of the electronic luggage tag, passengers can check the status of their checked luggage at any time on the China Eastern Airlines APP. The help of this "black technology" makes baggage services safer, more efficient and convenient.
